AMPM24-7 Overtone Chanting instruction by AnnMarie
Since our beginnings on this planet we as a species, along with all those who share this space have used sound to receive and send information, to transform and to restore wellness.
Sound is primarily composed of vibration and we live in a vibrational universe, as energy is also composed of vibration and we are energy beings.
We are in constant vibration and every aspect of our bodies, each tissue, organ and cell vibrates to it’s own specific rate. Science has now proven that sound anywhere near our human organism creates a physical change in the electromagnetic field of that organism.
Though this change may occur only during the sound and shortly thereafter, there is a window of opportunity presented by this tonal re-conditioning so-to-speak. This window offers us an opportunity to set a new intention or implement a state of future wellness for our organism to experience.
It can be said that during chanting and toning we are in a space where we are actually re-tuning our physical vehicle. Since our very bodies them selves are so changed and reorganized by the sounds of the environment that surrounds us, it is easy to understand how powerful it could be to choose to offer our own deep rhythms of vibration from the seat and soul of our bodies up, out and thru our breath as a way to align the body itself.
The Overtone chant has it’s origin in Central Asia and has been in practice for centuries. Most commonly by the Shamen of Mongolia, South Africa and Tibet. Other terms for the Overtone are “deep voice” chanting and “throat” singing.
Acoustic instruments such as the Tibetan singing bowls, didgeridoo, gongs and bagpipes also produce a basic bass line of the drone, while can be heard a second higher frequency that fluctuates with control of the instrument. If you have ever had the occasion and honor to be near one of these powerful instruments as the drone or overtone remains a constant while the melody of the music flows above, after a very short period of time you can feel the impact of this drone on your inner landscape. It feels wondrous. With a small amount of practice you can create this healing sound in a vibration that feels totally comfortable for you, that is completely and uniquely yours and move it thru your body.
Overtoning will enhance your creativity when used a regular form of meditation. A small amount of time investment on your part can yield great results, assist in balancing your brain hemispheres, provide you with easier access to your intuition, and assist in producing a state of calm relief from stress.
Chanting is an all around great assistance to any form of inner meditative study you already do, as well as the visceral feeling of improvement that it provides almost instantly to the physical state.
My training with you and this method would involve a basic session where we establish how comfortable you feel with vocalization, and depending on how this goes we create or find a place to do some vocal work together. I will teach you the method and we will chant together until you feel you have an ear for what you are doing and what you are listening for. I have recordings that you may listen to where many people are Overtoning as a group and you can really get a strong sense for what the impact of this sound can do.
Once you have gained the basics we will set up a practice during which you will be focusing primarily on the areas of your body that you would like to send this energy to. It’s fun and as a tool can be used for the rest of your life, easily.
One of the most fabulous people I have studied in this area is Jill Purce. Jill has been studying this voice method and teaching it to others for many years and she is a joy to hear. If you would like more detailed information you may want to check out her web site at:
